Spell Wheel VR, a mod by the mighty Shizof (whose work is well represented in MGO), makes it possible to juggle your inventory without bringing the game to a screeching halt while you navigate menus. Spell Wheel adds a radial menu that you conjure with a button combo and snatch from with a sweep of your hand. You can even assign functions like Save to a Spell Wheel slot.
Opening the wheel
Each hand has its own wheel. To open one, hold
Grip and squeeze the
Trigger on the same hand1. The wheel pops up in front of that hand.
With the wheel up, move a hand over the orb containing the item/spell/option you want. It swells a little bit to show that it’s selected (and if hover text is on, its name pops up). Let go of the button(s) while you’re over the orb, and that item/spell/power equips to that hand. The orb in the dead center of each wheel unequips whatever you’re holding.
A binding to watch
Left grip +
Left trigger is already assigned to Shout / Power, which conflicts with Spell Wheel’s default. You’ll want to rebind one or the other. The creator of that control scheme suggests B/Y.Filling the wheel
Out of the box, MGO has Spell Wheel configured to show way more than you probably want. (This will change in a future MGO update.) I recommend going through the Types tab in the MCM and setting it to show only your favorites in various categories. Personally, I include favorite melee weapons, spells, and shouts/powers in both hands; favorite shields, bows, staves, potions, and torches in my off-hand; and favorite crossbows in my primary hand. I also include certain shortcuts (like save) in one or the other.
A wheel can hold:
- Spells
- Shouts and powers
- Potions, food, and poisons
- Weapons, shields, staves, torches, scrolls, and armor
- Shortcuts, including save, dismount, and orbs that open the Journal, Wait, and Tween menus.
Straight from the wheel
Pagination in the nation
Spell Wheel supports multiple pages of orbs per hand. With them enabled, swipe from the center (left or right, like those dating apps you kids are always on) to move between them. If you’d rather not build a layout from scratch, the MCM includes presets for Mage, Warrior, Rogue, and Spellsword playstyles to start from.
More options
Spell Wheel has even more options, and the Nexus page documents everything. Configuration highlights include the aforementioned presets, the button combo used to open the wheels, bullet-time, hover text, scaling, and more.
More than a wheel
Some controller bindings assign a different Spell Wheel combo by default, so be sure to check out the specifics for your bindings. ↩︎
