The first time you run Mad God’s Overhaul, it will take quite a long time to get to the main menu. Once you start a new game, there’s a bit more waiting to do before you’re really ready. You’ll also likely want to do some configuration before you set off on your adventure.
Compiling Shaders
As the game starts up for the first time, Community Shaders will compile shaders so things load faster in-game and in future launches. It takes awhile, but that gives you some time to fine-tune the graphics configuration.
Character Creation
Skyrim is an RPG, after all. It’s time to build the character of your dreams (and your enemies’ nightmares). As with pretty much everything else in Mad God’s Overhaul, it isn’t quite the vanilla experience.
Alternate Perspective
Speaking of leaving behind the vanilla experience, MGO includes an alternate start mod that gives you a number of choices for where and how you begin the game. This is the alternate start mod included in MGO 4.0 RC3 and later.
Alternate Start (ASLAL)
This is the alternate start mod included in all versions of MGO up to and including 4.0 RC2.
